Can bibs be transferred for the race? 

Bibs are not-transferable and cannot be deferred to a future race.

Refund Policy?

***Elm Street Cutoff time – In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, the race course will remain open to all participants who reach the Elm Street trailhead of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail (roughly 7.5 miles) by 10:15 AM. This would be an 18:00 minute per mile pace for runners and a 28:00 minute per mile pace for walkers. Those participants who are unable to meet the 10:15 AM cutoff time will be directed to turn right onto the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail and will not be able to complete the full 13.1 mile course and their finish time will not be recorded.

 

**5k Run Cutoff time – In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, there will be a 50 minute cutoff time for all participants in the 5k. This would be a 16 minute per mile pace. If you are unable to finish the race in this timeframe, your time will not be recorded.

Are paper registration forms available?

No. All registrations must be completed online. Accepted forms of payment are Visa and Master Card.

 

I registered for the race, but didn’t receive an email confirmation. Is my registration confirmed?
At times, email servers block the confirmation emails. You can search your spam folder.

 

Are there pre-determined locations to watch the race?

There are no pre-determined vantage points, but the course is very accessible through side streets and along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.

 

When can I pick up my race packet?

Can someone else pick up my race packet?

A proxy will be allowed to pick up your packet for you. The proxy MUST HAVE a copy of your license and a copy of your race entry confirmation.

 

Are dogs allowed in the race?

Unfortunately, due to safety concerns and insurance reasons, the Scranton Half Marathon has adopted a no dogs/pets policy. This policy also extends to race volunteers, spectators, and participants in the start and finish areas of the race. Only service dogs will be allowed with a participant or spectator and race staff may ask if a dog is a service animal.

 

Prohibited Items:

Strollers / baby joggers, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, and scooters are all prohibited from the race course.

 

Can I listen to music (headphones, earbuds, ipods, etc.)?

For the safety of all participants, we do not recommend the use of any electronic devices while participating in the Scranton Half Marathon.

What does the entry fee entitle me to?

Entry fee includes race T-shirt, swag bag, finisher’s medal, and post race event.

 

Is the race registration fee refundable?

The refund policy is as follows:

From 1 September to 31 December, a full refund will be given.

From 1 January to 15 February, a 25% refund will be given.

Beginning 16 February, no refunds will be given.

 

What timing system is being used for the race?

The race timing will be done utilizing Chronotrack Timing Systems. The timing sensors will be on the backside of your race number. For best accuracy potential, be sure to not bend or fold your number.

 

What is the parking situation for the race?

Participants and spectators are welcome to park in the Scranton High School/PenFed Credit Union Field at Memorial Stadium, and throughout the parking garages in the city. Leading up to the event, a parking map will be emailed to all registrants.

 

Are there hotels affiliated with the race?

Several local hotels are offering group rates for the Scranton Half.

What if it rains?

There is not a rain date for this event. It will be held rain or shine.

 

Is the race wheelchair conducive?

Not at this time. We are looking to accommodating wheelchairs in future years as the course develops.

Where do the races start/finish?

The start/finish of both races are at PenFed Field at Memorial Stadium in Scranton.

 

What time should I be at the starting line race morning?

The half marathon begins promptly at 8 AM. We recommend you head to the start line by 7:30 AM.

 

Is there a bag check?

No. There will be no bag check.

No bags will be taken at the expo.

 

How will the water stations be positioned?

Water will be stationed approximately every 2 miles along the course.

 

Does the race have pace groups?

There will not be any official pace groups in this race.

 

Will there be porta potties on the course?

Yes. There will be porta potties at the start, finish, and designated areas along the race course of the half marathon. No porta potties will be on the course for the 5k.

 

Is there team categories/registration?

Yes, the half marathon will feature a Team category. Teams need a minimum of 3 participants to count. You may have as many members on your team as you wish. The top 3 members are scored based on total time. Winning team will be honored at the after-party.

 

Are there Elite Entries Available?

Runners who can document a performance from previous years (2024) better than or equal in the half marathon to the chart below may submit a request for an elite complimentary entry into the 2025 field.

Elite Male – 1:15.00

Elite Female – 1:27.00

 

Each request must provide the web address for the race results that document a comparable performance recorded within the last year. Please note that the Scranton Half Marathon does not provide appearance fees or travel reimbursement.
